Unlocking the Potential of Muslim Women Entrepreneurs in Ghana

The Ghana Muslim Entrepreneurs and Business Summit 2025 highlighted the important role of
women in business within Muslim communities.

The summit noted that women own a majority of small businesses in Muslim communities. At
the same time, it observed that women were underrepresented among the speakers at the
summit.

This contrast points to the need for greater recognition of women’s contribution to
entrepreneurship and business development. Women are already active in business,
particularly at the small-business level, and their participation is an important part of the
economic life of their communities.

The summit’s wider discussions on networking, investment, knowledge and mentorship are
relevant to women entrepreneurs as well. Access to business relationships and opportunities
can help entrepreneurs develop their enterprises and expand their activities.

The issue of representation also matters because business platforms provide opportunities for
entrepreneurs to share their experiences and influence discussions about the future of their
sectors. Greater participation by women can bring additional experiences and perspectives into
conversations about business development.

The summit did not treat women’s entrepreneurship as separate from the wider business
agenda. Rather, the discussion formed part of the broader objective of strengthening the
economic capacity of the Muslim community.

Women entrepreneurs can contribute to business growth, employment and household
livelihoods. Supporting their participation therefore forms part of the wider effort to create
economic opportunities.

The summit’s observation about representation provides an opportunity for future business
platforms to examine how women can participate more fully as speakers, leaders,
entrepreneurs and partners.

The broader message is that economic development requires the participation of the people
already building businesses within the community. Muslim women entrepreneurs are an
important part of that group.
