From Local Businesses to Global Markets

The Ghana Muslim Entrepreneurs and Business Summit 2025 emphasised the importance of
helping businesses move beyond local markets and take advantage of wider opportunities.

The summit discussed the need to position enterprises for global markets through the African
Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and other relevant institutions. The objective is to create
opportunities for businesses to expand their reach and strengthen economic relationships.

The discussions also placed importance on localisation and value-added production.
Businesses were encouraged to explore innovation and consider how local production can
contribute to economic development.

The summit identified deindustrialisation as an issue requiring attention. One response
discussed was the promotion of businesses and production that create greater value locally.
B2B sessions, trade promotions, exhibitions and networking sessions were identified as
practical ways of supporting this objective. These platforms can bring businesses together with
potential partners, customers, investors and other stakeholders.

The summit also encouraged businesses to think about how traditional enterprises can be
developed into modern brands. Examples such as Waakye and tea selling were discussed as
businesses that could potentially be transformed into structured and scalable brands.

This approach connects local enterprise with the broader question of competitiveness.
Businesses need to understand their markets, improve their operations and develop products
and services that can respond to wider demand.

The summit’s emphasis on global markets was therefore not limited to exporting products. It
also involved building relationships, accessing knowledge, finding partners and developing
businesses capable of participating in larger markets.

MEBSG seeks to provide a platform where these relationships can develop. By bringing
entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, industry leaders and other stakeholders together, the
organization aims to help businesses identify opportunities and build stronger economic
connections.

The overall objective is to help businesses move from individual operations towards stronger
networks, broader markets and greater opportunities for trade and investment.
